Nellie Allen's Obituary
Mrs. Nellie Mae Hitchcock Sexton Allen, age 90 of Austell, Georgia, passed away July 8, 2009 at Tranquility Hospice in Austell. Mrs. Allen devoted her life to caring for others, making a home for her family and loving the Lord. She was an active longtime member at Davis Chapel Baptist Church in Austell and in recent years had joined the Concord Baptist Church in Mableton, Georgia. After retirement from Cluett-Peabody/Arrow Shirt Company in 1981, she earned her Certified Nursing Assistant certification. For several years she assisted families with private duty care in their homes. Mrs. Allen also made many nursing home visits to friends and acquaintances, sharing magazines and encouragement. She was also an enthusiastic volunteer at the CAMP ministry in Austell. While employed at Arrow Shirt Company she was an active participant in the American Business Women’s Association. Mrs. Allen moved into Assisted Living at Presbyterian Village in Austell in 2007. There, she spent two happy and enjoyable years among new and old friends. More recently, she received care in the Presbyterian Village Nursing Home and Memory Care Assisted Living. Mrs. Allen was preceded in death by her husband and her children’s father, William Carl Sexton, and by her second husband, Sirce Oliver Allen. She is survived by her children and their spouses, Wanda & Jerry Stephens of Winston, Patricia & Charles Douglas of Alma, Linda & Steve Hampton of Douglasville, Eddie & Martha Sexton of Douglasville, and Rickey C. Sexton of Villa Rica; Twelve grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. Five sisters and one brother also survive. Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 11, 2009 at 11:00 AM at the Davis-Struempf Chapel with Rev. Eddie Barton and Rev. Clyde Wade officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Harmony Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Friday, July 10th from 4 to 8 PM at the funeral home.
