Rev. Nathaniel Nkosi's Obituary
Nathaniel Vusumuzi Nkosi, age 75 of Mableton went home to be with the Lord on November 19, 2012 following an illness for which he was receiving care at Wellstar Cobb Hospital in Austell, Georgia. He was a Dedicated Disciple of Jesus Christ who truly lived to fulfill the great commission of Christ to make disciples of all nations.
He was born on August 9th1937 in Natal, South Africa to Mr. and Mrs. Johannes Nkosi who raised him and his siblings in a loving Christian home. He was married to Muriel Edna Mkhwanazi for 47 years. They were blessed with three children: Wisdom Dumisani Nkosi, Unity Thembalihle Nkosi and Faith Ntokozo Nkosi Bates. He moved to the United States in 1985 and has lived in Louisville, Kentucky and the greater Atlanta area. He was a member of Mt. Paran Church in Atlanta.
Nate received Jesus Christ as his personal Savior on November 16, 1958 and was called to Christian Ministry. He was educated as a teacher and a minister of the Lord. He attended the Evangelical Teacher Training College, Johannesburg Bible Institute (South Africa) and the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky. He served many years with Youth Alive Ministries, Scripture Union, the Student Christian Movement and World Vision spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ throughout the continent of Africa. Many came to know the Lord during this time and the seeds of faith that were planted then are still bearing much fruit even to this day. He also served as pastor of Meadowlands Baptist Church in Soweto, South Africa and at Liveoak Baptist Church in College Park Georgia. In the latter year of his ministry, he worked tirelessly with pastors, churches and many others to bring light to what true discipleship means.
Nate was preceded in death by his parents Johannes and Tryphina Nkosi, his nine siblings, and son Unity Thembalihle Nkosi. He is survived by his beloved wife Muriel Edna Nkosi, children: Wisdom Dumisani Nkosi and Faith Ntokozo Nkosi Bates, grandchildren: Amber Nicole Bates, Gabrielle Thandiwe Bates, Louis Bates III, Siyabonga Lauren Nkosi , Olivia Lindiwe Nkosi and Adam Colon, son-in law Louis Bated jr, daughter in-law Heli Nkosi, niece Maud Thandeka Barron along with the Nkosi, Khanyile, Mgobozi, Mkhwanazi and families.
His family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 4 until 8 PM with a service of remembrance from 6 - 8 PM. Funeral service will be held at Davis-Struempf Chapel. on Saturday, December 1, 2012 at 12:00 PM with Bishop Don Thomas officiating.
