Miriam Chapman Burch's Obituary
Miriam Allen Chapman Burch, age 90 of Atlanta, passed away on Saturday, November 28, 2015. A native of Atlanta, she was born to the late Walter Franklin and Carrie Fuller Chapman on June 20, 1925. She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis Hayman Burch, Jr.
She is survived by her children, Louis Hayman Burch, III (Sarah) of Holly Hill, SC and Allen Franklin Burch (Diane) of Jefferson, GA. She will be fondly remembered by her four grandchildren: Louis Hayman Burch, IV of Mount Pleasant, SC, Pierce Allen Burch of Holly Hill, SC, Jefferies Chapman Burch of Jefferson, GA, and Hannah Rose Burch, of Jefferson, GA.
Miriam attended North Fulton High School and was a graduate of the Georgia State College for Women, where she was a member of the Theta Beta Cast of the Alpha Psi Omega National Honorary Dramatic Fraternity. She also served as a Grady Hospital “Gray Lady” in the mid 1950’s. Miriam was also an avid china painter, and practiced her art from 1959 until the mid 1980’s.
She was member of Clairmont Presbyterian Church for many years, where she served as President of the Presbyterian Women, a Coordinating Team Parliamentarian, and a Circle Representative. She was a Women of the Church life member. She was a volunteer at Clifton Night Hospitality (now Clifton Sanctuary Ministries), and served as a Stephen Minister. After transferring her membership to Macland Presbyterian Church, she became a member of the Knit Wits, knitting squares for assembly into afghans for those in need.
Visitation will be held at the Lake View Chapel at Presbyterian Village in Austell on December 1st, 2015, 10:00 am until 11:00 am. A memorial service will immediately follow. A private service for the immediate family will conclude with interment.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the wonderful and loving caregivers at Hearthstone, as well as Golden Home Services and Crossroads Hospice for their kindness and compassion.
