Mildred Rutherford's Obituary
Mildred Hattie Rutherford, age 94, passed away November 20, 2011. Born in Douglas County and raised in Austell, Mildred was the eldest child of Raymond Sylvester Rutherford and Ruby Meadows Rutherford. She is preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Alline Gore and Catherine McWilliams; and brother, Raymond Rutherford. She is survived by her brother Ralph Rutherford and his wife Doris of Lavonia, GA, and many nieces and nephews. Mildred was an active member of Austell First Baptist Church and graduated from Austell High School in 1935. After attending business school, Mildred began working for Sears Roebuck in 1936. She moved to Decatur and became an active member of Virginia Highland Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School and served as the superintendent for many years. She was church historian as well as her family historian, compiling many albums of records and photos of church and family events from the past and present. Mildred retired from Sears in 1982 after 46 years and was active in the Sears retiree club for many years. She enjoyed traveling the world with family and friends and she loved flowers. In recent years she moved to Marietta to reside at Atherton Place. Funeral services will be Saturday, November 26, 2011 at 11:00 am at Virginia Highland Church, 743 Virginia Avenue NE, Atlanta, GA 30306. Interment will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Austell. The family will receive friends before the service in the church social hall, starting at 10:00 AM.
