Michael "Mickey" Morris' Obituary
MORRIS, MICHAEL J.
Mr. Michael (Mickey) J. Morris, age 70, of Marietta, Georgia passed away on February 19, 2019.
He grew up in Austell, Georgia and graduated from South Cobb High School. He also attended the University of Georgia where he earned Bachelor, Masters, and Specialist degrees. During his three decades in education as a biology teacher, he worked in Cobb County at McEachern High and in DeKalb County at Dunwoody High (where he was named a National Outstanding Secondary Teacher), Peachtree Jr. High, and Chamblee Magnet High. In addition to teaching, Mickey also served as Science Department Chair.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Ralph V. and Willy B. Morris; brother, Raymond Morris; and sister, Barbara Yeager. He is survived by his brother-in-law, Don Yeager of Douglasville, Georgia; nephew, David Yeager of Orange Beach, Alabama and great-niece, Kaimyn; nephew, John Yeager (wife, Samantha) and great-nephews, Ty and Jack, of Elberta, Alabama; sister-in-law, Brenda Morris of Douglasville, Georgia; and life-long devoted friend, Tony Melton (wife, Judy) of Marietta, Georgia.
His health support group during his recent illness included cousins, Nancy Pozzi, Geraldine Rice, Gayle Fuller, Patricia Eason, Ronald Fuller, sister-in-law Brenda Morris and friends, Larry and Carolyn Roebuck and Tony and Judy Melton.
Mickey was an avid UGA Bulldog fan and enjoyed gardening, board games, card games, going to movies and making delicious dishes from his favorite recipes which he shared at gatherings. He will be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor, his constant smile and the great stories he could tell, as well as his generosity and never-ending care and concern for family and friends.
Funeral services will be Saturday March 2 at 10:30 AM in the chapel at Davis-Struempf Funeral Home, 1975 East-West Connector, Austell, GA. 30106 (770-944-2900). The family will receive friends between the hours of 9 AM and 10:30 AM Saturday at the funeral home. Reverend Bill Rorie will be officiating. Interment will immediately follow at Crest Lawn Memorial Park, 2000 Marietta Blvd., Atlanta, GA 30318 (404-355-3380).
