Maurice Jarrell "Jerry" Ayers' Obituary
Maurice Jarrell “Jerry” Ayers, age 84 of Mableton passed away June 19, 2024.
Jerry was born to Maurice Byron and Eula Mae Ayers in Atlanta
He was raised in the Atlanta area and graduated from Fulton High School in 1957. At 23, he married the love of his life, Margie Fay Little, and the couple moved to Mableton to begin raising a family.
Jerry was a proud Veteran and served in the United States Navy as photographer’s mate E-5 in Key West, Florida from 1959-1962, with his primary duties assigned to photographic reconnaissance.
He was an active member of the American Legion Post 264 in Mableton, where he held the title of Senior Vice Commander. He served in many capacities including Bingo, Operation Buddy, and the Children’s Christmas Firetruck Run.
Jerry was honored to be inducted as member of the invitation only Military Honors Society, La Societe des 40 Hommes et 8 Chevaux.
He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge 171 in Mableton.
Jerry enjoyed traveling to the beach with his family and could be found singing karaoke in his spare time. He was an avid football fan of both the Georgia Bulldogs and the Atlanta Falcons.
In addition to his parents, Jerry was preceded in death by his loving wife of 59 years, Fay Ayers and brother, Brent Byron Ayers.
Jerry is survived by his children, Darryl Ayers (wife, Lynn) of Royston, Michelle Helton (husband, Kyle) of Hiram, and April Tomlin of Hapeville; brother, Douglas Ayers; grandchildren, Tucker (wife, Laura), Dawson, Jackson, Chandler (wife, Kailee), Grayson, Belle, Dylan, and Ashlyn; great-granddaughter, Mia Joy.
Funeral Services will be held Monday June 24, 2024, 1:00 PM at Davis-Struempf Funeral Home Chapel with Kyle Helton officiating. Entombment will occur at Mt. Harmony Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends for visitation prior to the service Monday from 11:00AM-1:00PM at the funeral home.
