Mattie Pouncy's Obituary
Pouncy, Mrs. Mattie Hunter Pouncy, 83, of Austell, passed away on Wednesday, December 12, 2007 at Tranquility, Wellstar Community Hospice.
Born July 20, 1924, in Sardis (Dallas County), Alabama, she was a graduate of Tuskegee University and the College of New Jersey. A dedicated public school teacher she taught in the public schools of Florida, Alabama, Indiana and New Jersey. Her particular interest was in working with children in special education.
She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Hillard Pouncy; her son and daughter-in-law, Hillard, and Carolyn of Wallingford, PA; grandson Thomas, a sophomore at Harvard University; five sisters, Evelyn, Clearine and Betty of New York, Eloise of Chicago and Julie of Washington, DC; and, two brothers, Woodrow and William Hunter of New Jersey and Connecticut.
Mrs. Pouncy was a very religious person and a faithful member of the Douglasville First Methodist Church. Her deep faith reached out to countless people- young and old- wherever she lived whether in the U.S. or abroad.
