Matthew S. Deane's Obituary
Matthew Sylvester Deane, aged 77, of Georgia, USA and formerly of Superlative and Glebe Land, St. George, peacefully fell asleep on October 31, 2016 at home. He was born to the late Rawle Shorey and Elsie Deane on February 26, 1939. Matthew completed his secondary education at the Modern High School. After a brief stint of teaching at St. George’s Boys school, Matthew entered the civil service of Barbados at the General Hospital and was seconded to the Treasury Department where he worked in accounts until 1964. His career continued at Cable and Wireless from 1964 to 1972. After emigrating to the USA in 1972, Matthew joined the staff of the United Nations in 1974. He worked in the UN Pension Fund department until his final retirement in 2009.
He leaves to mourn, his wife, Francis Cole Deane, daughters, Dr. Joy-Ann Deane (Cleon Phillips) and Solange Deane, step-sons, Gregory Bentham (Jeanette) and Everad ‘Evy’ Bentham (Dionne), grandchildren, Julaine and Jackson, step-grandchildren Alaina Bentham, Zoe and Lenie, and Bella Dior Bentham, sisters, Ordean Burrowes, Thelma Hughes and Kathleen Williams, cousins, Ambrose Deane and Sherrol Deane of the Barbados Defense Force, Dorothy Bishop and Jacqueline Bishop of Barbados, David Deane, Levere Deane, Esther Johnson, Brenda Marshall, Ian Deane, Joel Bispham, Debra Bispham and Michelle Bispham, all of the USA, and many others.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, November 12, 3:00 PM at Davis-Struempf Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM before the service.
