SAYER, Marylane age 85 of Winston, passed away April 4, 2015. She was preceded in death by daughter, Elaine Lewis and granddaughter, Lydia Sayer. Marylane is survived by sons, Gene Sayer of Augusta and Barry Sayer of Birmingham; daughters, Jane Greene of Douglasville and Becky Lingerfelt of Winston; 6 grandchildren, Katy Young, Felicia Gonzalez Ellis, Joshua Gonzalez, Missy Ford, Alisha Wadsworth, Gloria Sayer; great- grandchildren, Tate Ford, Tucker Ford, Zoey Wadsworth, Drew Wadsworth, Kendall, Matthew and Alisa Young, Christopher and Ethan Gonzalez, Alexa, Rebecca Gonzalez; sisters, Genie Echols and Jane Hutchinson.
Marylane Wilkinson Sayer knew the Lord at an early age and had decided that she wanted her life to be given to His service. She finished high school and worked at the 5 and 10. She started her college career with her heart set to work with children as a teacher with a special interest in the field of Home Economics. Before finishing college she met and fell in love with Ralph Sayer and made the decision to marry and have a family. The path she chose did not lead her in the direction she had hoped because of situations that came about that were out of her control. In spite of those hardships, her greatest desire-to be a mother-was finally realized when her children were born.
Her sisters’ fondest memories of her were that she was sweet natured and very giving. Those characteristics were evident to her children as she struggled to be a part of their lives even though circumstances sometimes made it more and more difficult.
The later years of her life were spent in nursing facilities – most recently, Douglasville Nursing and Rehab. It was here that her daughters, Jane and Becky, were finally able to spend precious moments with her and share their love for their mother and for the Lord that she had taught them about at an early age. As she became weaker every day, their sweet conversations and singing of hymns were a great comfort to them as well as to Marylane.
Marylane will be missed and remembered by all as a loving, kind, considerate, gentle spirit.
Funeral Services will be held Tuesday 11:00 AM at Davis- Struempf Chapel with Rev. Terry Braswell officiating. Interment will follow at Fishing Creek Baptist Church. The family will receive friends Monday 5:00-8:00 PM at Davis- Struempf Funeral Home.
