Mary Catherine Schmidt's Obituary
Mary Catherine Schmidt, 79, of Lithia Springs, Georgia, passed away peacefully on
March 25, 2026.
Mary Catherine was a devoted member of Union Grove Baptist Church in
Lithia Springs, where her faith guided her life and her kindness touched many.
She was known for her funny, witty spirit and her ability to make others smile, even in the simplest moments. Kind, generous, and deeply thoughtful, she was the kind of mother, friend, grandmother, and wife anyone would be grateful to have. She often reminded those around her, “We don’t hate anyone,” a reflection of the compassion and grace she carried throughout her life.
She would also lovingly say, “I don’t hurry well,” a phrase that perfectly captured her gentle, easygoing nature. Catherine loved her family above all else and would do anything for them. She was truly the glue that held her family together, always putting their happiness and well-being above her own. When you think
of a perfect mother, she was it—so much so that many beyond her own children lovingly called her “Mom.” If anyone needed someone to talk to, she was always there to listen, offering comfort, wisdom, and unwavering support. She made everyone feel safe. She made everyone feel important. Whether something went wrong or something went right, she was always the first person you wanted to call and tell. Her family knows that life will never be the same without her, and there will not be a day that goes by that she is not thought of and missed deeply. The love and closeness she created within her family is rare and enduring, and her presence will be felt forever in their hearts.
Mary Catherine also took great pride in helping build H&H Garbage into a successful business for over 35 years, a reflection of her dedication, strength, and perseverance.
Through hard work and determination, she and Pete were able to achieve her dream of a beautiful home. Mary Catherine cherished holidays and family traditions, with Christmas holding a special place in her heart. She delighted in decorating and filling her home with the beauty and joy of the season, creating memories her family will forever treasure. She had a true gift for being crafty and was especially known for her artistic talents, creating beautiful porcelain dolls and intricate crochet baby blankets. She poured love into everything she made, often sharing her creations with others, bringing joy and comfort to those around her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Emmit and Jacqueline Webb.
Mary Catherine is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Peter Schmidt; her son, Brian Schmidt of Lithia Springs; her daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and David Collett of Rydal; her beloved grandchildren, Bailey Schmidt and Brooklyn Schmidt; and her brother, Jack Webb.
She was a devoted wife, a loving mother, and a proud and adoring “Granny,”
whose love will be deeply missed and whose example will live on in all who knew her. She was truly the kind of person anyone would strive to be like.
Funeral services will be held at Union Grove Baptist Church in Lithia Springs on Saturday, March 28, 2026, at 1:00 PM. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12:00 to 1:00 PM at the church. Interment will follow at Sunrise Memorial Gardens.
In writing this, there are truly no words special enough to fully describe just how wonderful she was.
