Mary Virginia Hicks Parker's Obituary
Mary Virginia Hicks Parker, age 81, of Mableton passed away surrounded by her family on December 27, 2022. Virginia was born to Henry and Myrtle Hicks in Cleburne County, AL. After she married the love of her life, William Randall Parker, the two moved to Atlanta, and then to Mableton, to raise their family.
Virginia was a long-time member of Mableton First Baptist Church. In her free time, she loved to spend time in nature, whether that was gardening or watching her beloved hummingbirds. She was also an avid coupon-cutter and would travel to different stores in search of the best deal. On Saturdays in the fall, you could find her watching her Alabama Crimson Tide. But most of all, Virginia loved spending time with her grandchildren, who were the apple of her eye.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 39 years, William Randall Parker; daughter, Nina Marie Hutchison; and siblings, James Hicks, Montel Ray, and Fred Hicks.
Virginia is survived by her children, Donna Knight of Woodstock and Linda Dawkins of McKinney, TX; siblings, Frances Hulsey of Tallapoosa, Ruby Shackleford of Bremen, and Linda Faye Ginn (husband, David) of Fruithurst, AL; grandchildren, Haley Moore (husband, Brandon) and William Dawkins (wife, Maddie); great-grandchildren, Isabella and Bryson Moore; and many beloved extended family.
Funeral services will be held Friday, December 30, 2:00 PM at Davis-Struempf Chapel with Rev. David Ginn officiating. Interment will follow the service at Barber Cemetery, Mableton.
The family will receive friends from 12:00 to 2:00 PM before the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests you consider donations in Virginia’s name to the Dementia Society of America at https://www.dementiasociety.org/.
For anyone wishing to view the service virtually, a livestream link will be available on Virginia’s Tribute Page at the above-listed service time at www.davisstruempf.com
