Mary Elizabeth Newsom's Obituary
Mary Elizabeth Newsom, aged 93, passed away peacefully on December 25, 2024, in Nampa, Idaho. Born on February 21, 1931, Mary dedicated much of her life to education and faith.
Mary earned a Master's degree from Georgia Southern and spent her career teaching seventh and eighth grade English in Cobb County schools. Her passion for education was paralleled only by her commitment to her faith. A powerfully faithful Christian, Mary taught senior ladies Sunday school and was a cherished member of the First Baptist Church in Powder Springs. She contributed her musical talents to the church choir and expressed her creative spirit through hobbies such as sewing, embroidery, and doll making.
Mary's family remembers her as a pillar of strength and love. She is survived by her son, Jonathan; daughter-in-law, Rosemary; grandson, Jonathan; granddaughter, Olivia; and great-granddaughter, Nicole. She was preceded in death by her son Russell, husband Tillman, and granddaughter Michelle.
A funeral service honoring Mary's life will be held Tuesday 2:00 PM at Davis-Struempf Chapel. Interment will follow the service at Mozley Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM before the service.
