Mary Geneva Martin's Obituary
Mary Geneva Petty Martin, 79, much loved wife, mother, grandmother (Ma), mother-in-law, sister, aunt, and friend … has been called home!
"This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it" Psalm 118:24.
Momma took her last sweet breath here on earth and was immediately welcomed into the loving arms of her personal Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on February 6, 2020. Our family finds incredible peace and comfort knowing that Momma is now walking the streets of gold praising her Savior. We can only imagine!
Mary was born November 17, 1940, in Gaddistown, Georgia to Lassie and Clifford Petty as one of three children. She graduated from Pickens High School. After marrying her sweetheart in December of 1961, John Wayne Martin (of Dallas), the two settled in the Austell area where they raised a family of three: daughters Kathleen Denise Holland and Lisa Michelle Johnston (both of Acworth) and son Christopher "Chris" Wayne Martin (of Dallas). Mary had a quiet strength that was evident to those who knew her well. She radiated an incomparable inner peace and joy that was an inspiration to others. Young at heart, Momma had a passion for life, adventure, and most of all her family. She was a fervent student of God’s Word, and her greatest mission field was her children and grandchildren. She loved her family fiercely and took great joy in celebrating life’s precious moments with her five grandchildren, always eager to provide encouragement and support. She loved and was also loved by her three in-laws: Julius (Jay) V. Holland, Jeffrey M. Johnston, and Elizabeth A. Martin, who in turn provided endless support and laughter. Mary is preceded in death by her loving husband Wayne. Together, they attended Mars Hill Community Church of Powder Springs where they enjoyed lifting His name in song led by their son, the church’s worship pastor, Chris Martin.
