Mary Irvin Cook's Obituary
Mary Irvin Cook, age 81, of Hiram, passed away January 16, 2019. Mary Cook grew up in a house with lots of land and spent a lot of time outside with her sister and father. There were lots of animals; from rabbits to horses, but one of Mary’s favorite pets was a king snake! She would carry her king snake with her in her pocket. But this habit did not go well for Mary, because one day as she was traveling on a bus, the king snake decided to stick his head out and say hello to the other passengers. This resulted in Mary having to walk home.
After she grew up, Mary became a very ladylike person. While she was always quiet and modest in her chose of clothes, she loved color. She always wore bright colors and loved accessories like hats, scarves and necklaces. She also loved to read and was very gifted with her hands. Mary was a great seamstress, loved to do needle point and create things with her hands.
She loved to take trips - short or long - but her greatest passion was planning trips, as she had a child like fascination with the world around her. If she was in the car as a passenger she would constantly point our everything she saw on the way. She was often teased that she missed her calling as tour guide!
Another passion she had was greeting cards. She loved to send cards and would spend hours trying to find the perfect card for each person. Later in life, Mary loved to watch Hallmark movies and eat popcorn. Not long before she passed on she remarked that needed a shirt that said, “ I Love Popcorn”. Mary had a beautiful smile and gentle nature that we will miss.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Cook. Mary is survived by her children, Kathy (Mike) Cronin and Paul Cook; grandchildren, Philip (Brooke) Cronin and Sarah (Andy) Szatkowski; and great-grandchildren, Ashton, Eli, Paisley, John, and Peter.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 AM Tuesday at Davis-Struempf Chapel with Rev. Mike Cronin officiating. The family will receive friends Monday from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the funeral home. Interment will be held at Long Cane Cemetery, LaGrange, GA at 1:00 PM following the service.
