Mary Elizabeth Chapman's Obituary
Mary Elizabeth Chapman, 87, of Mableton, Georgia, passed on January 30, 2020.
Mary was born to Edward and Orna Young on May 6, 1932, in Youngs Creek, Indiana. She graduated from Paoli High School in 1950 as the class Salutatorian. After high school, Mary had a budding career as executive secretary for the Chrysler Corporation in Detroit, Michigan. She married John Chapman in 1958, and together they raised their family in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
She leaves as her legacy 3 children: Thomas Chapman (Charlie), Suzanne Hunter (Mike), and stepson John Chapman (Candy). 4 grandchildren: Joseph Smallegan, Emily Smallegan, Kerrie LeBlanc, and Shanna Meissner. And 1 great-grandchild, Jordan Green. She was preceded in death by her husband John, and stepdaughter Barbara Chapman.
Her family remembers her as a wonderful, caring, and generous person with a zest for life. Mary was a homemaker, an active volunteer in a variety of organizations, and a small business entrepreneur until she retired in the 1980s to Naples, Florida. Her passion was about affecting the most positive changes in people her entire life, and she touched the lives of nearly everyone she met.
A private memorial and reception for her closest friends and family will follow in the Spring. The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association at http://act.alz.org/goto/Mary_Chapman . The family would also like to thank Agape Hospice for their compassionate care and emotional support at the end of her life.
