Mary Ann Campbell's Obituary
Mary Ann Campbell passed away peacefully on Thursday May 4, after a long and courageous battle with complications from diabetes. She was surrounded by her husband “Jaybird”, who “never left her” and her sons Michael and Scott.
One of five children, Mary Ann was born on July 11, 1936 in Warm Springs, GA. She is preceded in death by her parents James and Faye Morton, her brother Gene and her sister Janice, whom she adored.
Mary Ann was loved by all who knew her as she was so incredibly caring and giving to others. If you knew Mary Ann, you felt like family. Keeping up with her was not for the faint of heart, as she absolutely lived her life to the fullest. She knew how to “do it up right” whether it was supporting her beloved Georgia Bulldogs, her avid participation in the Scottish Games as a member of the Douglas clan, or her passion for traveling, especially to New York City for shopping, “wining and dining” and Broadway, a family tradition that continues to this day. Mary Ann was also proud to be a charter member of P.E.O. Chapter BM Georgia, a philanthropic organization where women celebrate the advancement of women; educate women through scholarships, grants, awards, loans, and motivate women to achieve their highest aspirations.
Family meant everything to Mary Ann and she is survived by many who loved her, including her husband Jay Campbell; her son Michael Altman and his wife Cheryl; her son Scott Tillman and his wife Terri; her brother Jim Morton and his wife Shar; her sister Barbara Gayton; her brother in law George Clemons and his wife Nikki; her brother in law Lucky Clemons and his wife Winsome; her sister in law Nancy Lawson; her sister in law Sally Park and her husband Tom; her sister in law Patsy Clemons; her grandchildren Jeremy and Justin Altman, Emily and Joey Tillman and a host of nieces and nephews.
We loved her every day, and now we will miss her every day.
The family will receive visitors from 4 to 8 PM on Sunday, May 7 at Davis- Struempf Funeral Home (1975 East West Connector, Austell GA, 30106). A celebration of her life memorial service will be held there on Monday, May 8 at 11AM. In lieu of flowers, donations may also be made to the American Diabetes Association.
