Marvin Hoke's Obituary
Marvin L. Hoke, age 89 of Mableton passed away Thursday, September 3, 2015. Marvin was a decorated warrior who lied about his age to join the Army and proudly served his country in WWII. and he also served in Truman’s Honor Guard. He retired from Ryder Truck Lines and was a member of Seventh Day Adventist Church. He was truly a hero and the kindest, most generous person you’d ever know. He taught so many lessons on life, love, and forgiveness. But the greatest gift he ever gave, was teaching what the love of Jesus feels like in your heart. He spent his "golden years" caring for and feeding homeless folks every day. The Gospel of Luke tells us that "Your care for others is a measure of your greatness." Well Marvin, that means your greatness was infinite!
Marvin was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Hoke; son, Marvin Adam Hoke; grandson, William Jeremy Reynolds. Survived by daughters, Janet (Colin) Alcott of Albuquerque, New Mexico; Rebecca (Gary) Sheffield of Orlando Florida; Veronica L. Hoke of Mableton; Elva (Roger Tucker) Bowman of Mableton; son, Philip and Nancy Hoke of Temple; 14 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren. Funeral Services will be held Saturday 3:00 PM at Marietta Adventist Church with Elder Tom Carter officiating. Interment will be held at Mt. Harmony Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Friday from 6:00PM to 8:00 PM at Davis- Struempf Funeral Home.
