Mabel White Coakley 's Obituary
Mabel White Coakley was born January 20, 1934 in Asheville, North Carolina and passed away September 23, 2016 in Atlanta, Georgia. May received her Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Arizona in Speech Pathology and her Masters in Speech Pathology from the University of Nebraska - Omaha.
May met Walter J. Coakley, Jr. in Charleston, South Carolina and they were married June 13, 1959 in May’s home town of Asheville, North Carolina. Walt and May had two children, Claire and Chris. She was a gracious, compassionate, kind, and loving mother, whose dedication and devotion to her family was demonstrated each and every day.
May gave so unselfishly during her lifetime to anyone she encountered. She was an avid volunteer in the school systems in the Cobb County Georgia area doing speech and hearing testing; she taught English as a second language classes; she was a Stephens Minister at her church; a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution; a member of the Junior League; and so many more charitable organizations. She was very active in the lives of her children and grandchildren helping them explore all the vast opportunities available to them, helping them to tap into and reach their potential. May’s loving spirit touched so many, helped so many, and enriched so many lives. The world was a better place because of her giving and caring nature.
May is survived by her sister Joan, two children Claire and Chris, four grandchildren, Ashley, Courtney, Kelbey, and Kaylyn, four great grandchildren, Thomas, Arthur, Oliver, Joanna, and Gracey, and nieces Carol and Gloria.
