Lydia Ann Pinkston Phillips' Obituary
Lydia Ann Pinkston Phillips, 92, of Smyrna, Georgia, went home to be with her Lord on Thursday, February 23, 2017. She was born February 18, 1925, in Lake Park, Georgia to Emmett E. and Marie Brown Pinkston. Ann grew up in Parrott, Georgia and attended Tift County High School.
She was a graduate of Georgia State College for Women and worked for the Georgia Health Department Laboratory.
She married Charles Edgar Phillips, Jr. on August 16, 1945 at the Lake Park Baptist Church. She and Charles moved to Atlanta, Georgia upon his discharge from the US Navy where Charles attended Georgia Tech. Ann was an active member of First Baptist Church Marietta, a long-time Kennestone Hospital volunteer, plus an avid bridge player, gardener and bird watcher. Despite her many accomplishments, her greatest pride and joy was being “Mama Ann” to her children, grandchildren and her many great grandchildren.
Ann is survived by her sister: Dorothy Pinkston of Valdosta, and her children: Charles Phillips, III of Blairsville; Dr. Robert Phillips of Jesup; Donald Phillips of Powder Springs, Mary Ann Teal of Mableton; and her grandchildren: Patricia Hodges of Powder Springs; Charles Phillips IV of Dallas; Laura Wasdin of Statesboro; Robert Phillips, Jr. of Indian Trail, North Carolina; Robin Gormley-Knowles of Atlanta; Joni Bauman of Douglasville; Brian Teal of Marietta; and Jeni Norris of Marietta; and 17 great-grandchildren.
The Family will receive friends from 2pm to 3pm before the service. Memorial services will be held at Davis Struempf Funeral Home in Austell, Ga, on Saturday February 25 at 3pm.
