Lula LaNelle Worsham's Obituary
Our beloved Mother and Mimi, Lula LaNelle (Campbell) Worsham passed away peacefully with her children by her side on May 13, 2026, at the age of 88.
A loving and devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she was born in 1937 in Rockmart, GA to Valentine and Leonard Campbell.
LaNelle graduated from Rockmart High School in 1956 where she played on the girls’ basketball team. She met the love of her life, John (Ken) Worsham, of Cedartown, GA on a double date, and they married on Easter Sunday, April 1, 1956.
They soon moved to Marietta, GA for John to join Lockheed Martin. In these early years, LaNelle worked for Southern Bell as a telephone operator, and later worked as a bookkeeper for John’s HVAC and sheet metal fabrication business, Worsham Mechanical, Inc. Following this, she joined the Douglas County School System as a teaching and administrative assistant where she later retired.
LaNelle is remembered for her love of family, friends, and community. She was her family’s matriarch and greatest cheerleader, always present for her children and grandchildren. She rarely missed a sporting event, scouting occasion, or birthday party and loved hosting July 4th and holiday celebrations throughout the years. Family traditions and vacations were an essential part of who she was, and they remained a priority every summer. She shared a passion for cooking, and her recipes are cherished by all who knew her. LaNelle was a longstanding member of Lithia Springs First Baptist Church, and a former member of the WellStar Cobb Hospital Auxiliary where she volunteered for more than 10 years.
LaNelle is preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, her parents, her sister, Sue Bailey, and her brothers, Charles Campbell, and Clarence Campbell.
She is survived by her daughter, Kim Menefee (Chris), and her son, John A. (Jay) Worsham, Jr., (Kim), eight grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
Family and friends are invited to a visitation on Wednesday, May 20 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Davis-Struempf Funeral Home & Crematory, located at 1975 E. West Connector, Austell, GA 30106.
