Linda Gail Brooks' Obituary
Linda Gail Brooks, 84, of Austell, Georgia passed away peacefully on December 8, 2025 encompassed by the love of her family. She had suffered from a series of debilitating strokes.
Born on March 11, 1941 in Gadsden, Alabama to Fred and Margaret England, she grew up singing with her musical family. It was her love of singing that led her to a group of Navymen singing and playing guitar on the beach in Pensacola, Florida where she would meet the love of her life and husband of 67 years, Neil Brooks. They married on September 17, 1958 and moved to Mableton, GA where they started and raised their family.
She enjoyed working for Bellsouth for 14 years as Executive Assistant and Wellstar Health Systems for 18 years. She was a devout Christian with a strong faith in God and enjoyed singing in the choir.
Linda will always be remembered for her feisty spirit and her infectious laugh, a ray of sunshine and a light to everyone in her presence. She always knew how to make the hard days a little better–be it through finding the funny in the most humorless of situations, her direct (occasionally brutal) advice, or simply sharing from her bag of candy or sweet treats. She was the Queen of Comfort Food and could whip up the best authentic Southern meals at the drop of a hat, and if you were lucky, her homemade banana pudding was for dessert and would inevitably be followed by a wonderful nap on the piazza.
She thrived on spontaneity and loved to get out and galavant to see where the day would take her. She loved road trips and taking the back roads to her favorite places. She loved to “cross the state line” into Alabama on her way to Gadsden, and she always spoke of how breathtaking the drive was to Cherokee, North Carolina.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Margaret England, and her brother, Billy Wayne England, and her most favorite pet, Pepe Le Peu. She is survived by her husband, Neil Brooks, her brother, Donnie (Joan) England and beloved nieces and nephews, her daughter Brenda Hudlow, her son Marshall (Julie) Brooks, her grandchildren Brandi (Terry) Jaeger, Haleigh (Harry) Pritchett, and Jake Brooks, and her great-grandchildren, Ryan, Claire, Lillie Mae, and Brooks.
And as she always said when she was saying goodbye, “See you when the roses bloom! Cheers!”
The family will receive friends at Davis-Struempf Funeral Home on Friday, December 12, from 5:00 to 8:00 PM.
