Leon Welch Jr's Obituary
Leon Welch Jr. 88 of Austell, Georgia passed away on Thursday November 3, 2016. A native of
Clarksville, Tennessee, he had been a resident of Cobb County since 1961 where he and his
wife Betty Ann raised their three sons, operated several businesses, and was active in the
South Cobb communities of Austell, Mableton, and Powder Springs.
Mr. Welch was passionate about his faith. He was a long time member of the The First Baptist
Church of Powder Springs where he was a Deacon, worked with youth, supported the music
ministry, and for many years taught the Willing Workers Sunday class. For years he worked
with the church’s Crisis Committee that provided support and assistance to individuals and
families in crisis.
Leon Welch Jr. is survived by Betty Ann Bennett Welch his wife of sixty-eight years. Their three
sons and their families: Ronald and Sandra Welch of Powders Springs, Daniel and Terry Welch
of Heflin Alabama, and Derek and Anna Welch of Roswell. Grandchildren Adam, Judy, Nicholas, Karenna,
Kellyn, Bennett, Lauren, Harrison, and Damon. Great grandson Carter. Brother John B. Welch
of Norcross. Sister-in-law Carolyn Bennett Lawson of Austell. Several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Saturday November 5 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at the Davis-Struempf Funeral
Home Austell, Georgia.
The Service will be Sunday November 6 at 2:00 PM at The First Baptist Church of Powder
Springs. Internment at the Powder Springs Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family asks for donations be made to the First Baptist Church of Powder Springs Crisis Committee.
