Lavene Adamson Grant passed away on March 7th 2016 at the age of 90. She was born December 28th 1925 to Charles Ray Adamson, Sr. and Gladys Gilbert Adamson. She was born at home in Hapeville, Georgia and lived most of her adult life in College Park, Georgia.
Lavene was predeceased by her beloved husband, Charles Eugene Grant, her brother, Charles Ray Adamson, Jr., her parents, and her mother-in-law, Louise Addington Grant.
Her survivors included three daughters, Gail Grant Jeffreys, Susan Grant Walsh (Jim), and Becky Grant Gay (Jerry); grandchildren, Christy Jefferys Manning (Dwayne), Jennifer Jeffreys Phillips (Robbie), Colleen Walsh, Nancy Walsh Gospodareck (Louis), Robert Grant Walsh (Andrea), Meghan Walsh Smith (Antonio), Thomas Gay (Tina), Lauren Gay, and eleven great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a loving sister-in-law, Kathleen Schaudies, and an incredible caregiver, Martina Freeman, as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.
Lavene was a graduate of Hapeville High School and attended LaGrange College. She was an employee of Delta Airlines, where she met the love of her life, Charlie Grant. For the next 49 years, Lavene dedicated her life to caring for and loving her husband, children and many friends.
Lavene was a life-long member of the United Methodist Church. Since 1961, she has belonged to College Park First United Methodist, serving as a Sunday School Teacher, MYF leader and an active member of her Methodist Circle.
Mrs. Grand began substitute teaching when her children were in school, beginning a job she loved. She continued substitute teaching until she was 73 years old. She taught mostly at College Park High School, later McLaren Alternative School. Mom loved and enjoyed teenagers so much that her husband, Charlie, often referred to her as “the oldest teenager in College Park.”
Mrs. Grant moved to Presbyterian Village in 2007, where she received wonderful care from the dedicated and loving staff. She enjoyed playing Bingo and socializing with the other residents. Her roommate, Ruby Fowler, became her loving friend and we will forever be grateful for the love and support she offered Mom.
Mom left a legacy of love to everyone who knew her.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Friday, March 11th at Davis-Struempf Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM prior to the service at the funeral home.
