Larry Curtis Cooper's Obituary
Mr. Larry (LC) Curtis Cooper, age 79, resident of Austell, GA passed away peacefully on April 7, 2023. He was born on August 30, 1943, in Marietta, GA.
After attending Marietta High School, he enlisted in the US Army to serve during the Vietnam War and was awarded a Purple Heart. His military service also included tours of Germany, where he became fluent in German. Upon his honorable discharge from service, he began a multifaceted career as an Investigator for Norfolk Southern Railway, a Certified Police Officer, Advanced Paramedic, and a Lieutenant with the Fire Department.
As a Master Diving Instructor, he trained and certified many officers and individual volunteers in all aspects of diving for the purpose of Rescue and Recovery. He was instrumental in the initial formation of dive teams for Cobb, Douglas, and other government entities.
Larry was a member of St. Stephens United Methodist Church in Marietta for many years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse and Bonnie Sue Cooper; and grandson, Christopher Cooper.
Larry is survived by his daughters, Tess Davis (Matt) and Lisa Klingen; son, Jesse Cooper; granddaughter, Kristen Davis; grandson, Joshua Klingen (Cali); sisters, Phyllis McLean and Dianne Moss (Lee); nieces, Lori Munn (Dale), Judy Hunton (Don), and extended family and friends. He loved and treasured his family and many special friends.
He will be greatly missed but he is at peace and home with his Savior.
Funeral services will be held Friday, April 14th, 2:00 PM at Davis-Struempf Chapel with Rev. Doug Stephens officiating.
The family will receive friends on Thursday from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at Davis-Struempf Funeral Home.
A graveside service will be held on Monday, April 17th, 2:30 PM at Georgia National Cemetery.
