Larry Wayne Butler's Obituary
Larry “Poppy” Wayne Butler, was born on January 7, 1944 in Atlanta, Georgia, the second of 5 children. He is preceded in death by his mother and father Dorothy and Comer Butler, Brother Ronald Butler and grandson Thomas Wayne Butler.
Larry attended West Fulton High School in Atlanta, Georgia. Even though he didn’t complete formal education he went on to educate himself to design and build commercial signs. He was a hard worker and that enabled him to learn many aspects of the sign business. As a result of his perseverance, he retired from the commercial sign business after 46 years. His love of fishing intensified his desire to build his own bass and pontoon boats. His love of building and designing custom mantles and clocks inspired him endeavoring to finish his passion this past year. He completed his gifts of clocks before his reunion in October. In total, he built 48 clocks for those dearest to him. He loved to play the harmonica, especially to any new addition to his family to see their reaction to his favorite songs. His talent for painting was expanded when he put it to use painting tiny fingernails and faces. He had a quick wit and would pride himself on out punning everyone. He was never short on advice and expected you to practice what he told you. He just wanted everyone to learn from his own mistakes. Those who were fortunate enough to receive his advice received his love thereby.
Larry leaves to cherish his special memory: his wife, Connie of 51 years; four sons: Lance (Cindy) Butler; Ty (Jean) Butler; Rodney (Kim) Butler; Corey (Karrie) Butler; and three daughters: Aimee (Keith) Nash; Stephanie (Spencer) Cone; and Kathy Causey (John Land); twenty-one grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; Sister-in-law, Jean Butler; Brothers: Kenneth, Derrick, and Bryan Butler and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family, and dear friends; Others endeared as family: Kevin and Christy Norman with daughters Kiersten, Lauren and Ashli.
