Kathryn Ann Yancey's Obituary
Kathryn Ann Yancey, 68, of Smyrna, died Thursday,
May 7, 2026, at her home.
She was born in Atlanta, Georgia on March 22, 1958, to
Kyle and Janet Yancey. Known fondly by her family and
friends as “Kathy”, she grew up in Mableton, Georgia.
She attended Pebblebrook High School where she
played clarinet in the band, served as marching band
drum major, and spoke as co-valedictorian for her
graduating class. Kathy later graduated from Carson-
Newman University in Jefferson City, Tennessee.
Kathy completed her master’s degree at Georgia State
University. She established her own accounting practice,
earned her CPA, and taught university courses both in-
person and online.
She deeply enjoyed travel, reading, and music. She was a
talented pianist and often performed for weddings and
church services. Her Christian faith was an integral part
of her life, and all who knew her valued her encouraging
and uplifting nature.
Kathy was a warm and outgoing individual who dearly
cherished the people that she loved. She had a talent for
friendship, maintaining wide social circles and close
relationships across decades of her life. Her positivity,
wanderlust, and relentless enthusiasm will forever be
treasured by those who loved her.
She is preceded in death by her beloved father, Bennett
Kyle Yancey. She is survived by her mother, Janet
Nicholson Yancey; her brothers Phillip (Brigitte) Yancey
and Stephen (Laura) Yancey; nephews James and John
Yancey; and nieces Sarah, Kylie, and Rachel Yancey.
Kathy was laid to rest at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church in
Mableton, Georgia. A Celebration of Life service is
planned for early June. Gifts in her memory may be
made to the American Kidney Fund or the Georgia
Baptist Children’s Homes.
