Katherine Theresa Hoppe's Obituary
On February 14, 2024, Katherine Theresa Hoppe passed away in Georgia.
She and her three sisters were born and raised in the Bronx. After Katherine married Karl Hoppe, they moved upstate to Ulster Park, NY where they raised a son and three daughters. While a city girl at heart, she grew to love the wildlife and the peace of nature. She enjoyed gardening and watching the deer under the backyard apple tree.
Katherine loved reading. She proudly went back to college when she was in her 40’s to earn her bachelor’s degree in English. In addition to working at the local libraries, she wrote and published poems and short stories. She expressed her creativity in many ways, she also drew and painted. While she sometimes exhibited her art, she mostly shared it with her family. She also enjoyed watching baseball games and kung-fu movies.
She was known for her wit and feisty spirit–she had the quote, “Uppity Women Unite” posted in her kitchen for years. Like her sisters, Katherine displayed fortitude in the face of adversity. She loved listening to folk music including her favorite, Willie Nelson. Katherine treasured the time spent with her family who were the most important people in her life.
Katherine was preceded in death by her husband, Karl Hoppe; parents, Leonard and Lillian; sisters, Gertrude, Elsie, and Lily.
She is survived by her children, Suzannah Washburn (Eric), Chris Hoppe (Merideth), Kathleen Hoppe, and Melinda Hoppe (Renee); 7 grandchildren; 1 great-granddaughter, and 1 great-grandchild on the way.
A memorial will be held at a later date.
