Katherine Madelyn Garmon's Obituary
Katherine Madelyn Garmon, age 87 of Canton, GA passed away August 31, 2023.
Katherine was a member of the Church of God since she was a young girl. Most recently, Katherine was a devoted member of Mount Paran Church of God for 54 years starting at Mount Paran Central and moving to Mount Paran North in Marietta. She always ministered the love of God to everyone she met and touched the hearts of many. She is known for her strength to persevere through all life’s challenges, her deep faith and unwavering love for others.
At 16, she attended Green Leaf Business College for accounting and business. Her passion for business landed her positions at 4 substantial companies as their primary accountant and bookkeeper. She went on to open several businesses, starting with giving her mother, Evelyn her dream business and opened Evelyn's Cafeteria in honor of her mother as well as a boarding home close by where she continued to serve and help others. It flourished and many became as close as family. She then went on to open the first personal care home in Smyrna and received recognition in the local paper for serving the elderly and a place called home for each residence. She also won a Who’s Who award for her achievements. She eventually opened several other personal care homes in Marietta.
Katherine was a breast cancer survivor. She lived her life to the fullest and was extremely devoted to her family and those in need. She loved to travel, she was very outgoing and loved adventures. She held a special place in her heart for the ocean and the outdoors.
She is survived by her family; son, Timothy (Beth), daughter, Renee (Steve), daughter Stephanie (Matt) 3 grandchildren, Joe, Shannon and Derek, and great grandchildren Chloe, Issac, and David. Brother, Harvey Hames, (son, Todd), nephew, Matthew, double first Cousin Doris Hayes and her family; and very special friend/ adopted family member Anna Monroe.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 9th 2:00 PM at Mount Paran North Church with Rev. Jack Kelly officiating. Interment will follow the service at Georgia Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday, September 8th from 4-7 PM at the funeral home.
