Joyce "Chris" Hulsey's Obituary
Joyce “Chris” Hulsey, age 79, of Mableton passed away July 27, 2024.
Chris was born to Artie Heyward Bray and Hattie Bell Bray (formerly Key) in Albany, GA. She spent her youth growing up in Albany, and then eventually Atlanta, and attended O’Keefe High School.
Chris married the love of her life after high school and the young couple eventually settled in Mableton, where she spent the next 60 years. Chris dearly loved her children, grandbabies, and great grandbabies. They were the sunshine of her life. She was an involved mother and grandmother, never missing a field trip and always around to cheer her babies on.
After losing her beloved husband in 2011, Chris found herself again through friendships, karaoke, and dancing. She also enjoyed yardwork of any kind, and tended her yard herself until her passing. Always stylish, she had more cowboy boots and hats than anyone. Chris was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend who will be deeply missed.
Chris is preceded in death by her parents; husband of 50 years, Richard Lonzo Hulsey, Jr.; brother, Wayne Bray; and the man who was also like a father to her, J.C. Goodman.
She is survived by her children, Dawatha McDowell (husband, Shawn) of Locust Grove and Scott Hulsey of Centre, AL; brother, Artie Bray of Gwinnett County; grandchildren, Natosha Meier, Jonathan Hulsey, Savannah McDowell, and Drew McDowell; great-grandchildren, Cheyenne, Dallas, and Ridge Meier; and many beloved extended family and friends.
A funeral service honoring Chris’ life will be held Thursday, August 1, 2:00 PM at Davis-Struempf Chapel with Dr. Farren Roper officiating. Entombment will follow the service at Mt. Harmony Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends for visitation on Wednesday, July 31, from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at Davis-Struempf Funeral Home.
