Joseph Andrew West's Obituary
Joseph Andrew West, better known as Big Joe and Papa to those who knew and loved him, went to be with his Lord on April 21, 2020 at the age of 82 years old. Joe was surrounded by family in the comfort of home as he drew his last breaths. His final days were not long but were a hard-fought battle. In just a little under 8 weeks, Joe’s able body was cancer-stricken and wore down but he never gave up fighting against it as he did everything.
Those who knew him were impacted by his contagious smile, pure heart and unrelenting love for his family. He never spoke an ill-word about anyone and spoke to everyone as if he had known them and loved them forever. He cherished his time with his family and was involved in all aspects of their lives.
At 82 years old, Joe still lived independently with his wife and longtime love of 64 years, JoAnn West in their home in Lithia Springs, Ga. He enjoyed watching the Braves and sports, still drove and ran errands, attended all family functions and was full of life. He still held his electrical license in the State of Georgia, a trade which he practiced for over 40 years. A longtime hunter and outdoorsmen, he shared his passion with his family that will continue on for years to come. Joe has left a legacy by the character of man he was amongst all who knew him. He will be deeply missed but his love will live for so many more years to come.
Joe is survived by his wife, JoAnn West; son, Joseph “Joe Coy” West and wife, Debbie West; daughter, Sherri Tolbert and husband, Al Tolbert; grandchildren, Jenna Roberts, Evan Tolbert, Janet Webb, and Alayna Tolbert along with their spouses; great-grandchildren, Temperance Roberts, Presleigh Webb, and a little boy on the way.
