Joseph Wallace Cooler's Obituary
Joseph Wallace Cooler of Austell, Georgia passed away on July 14, 2026 at the age of 90. He was born October 11,1935 in Fairfax, SC.
Joe had a life that's almost fitting for a movie. Life was hard for him growing up, but he was able to build one that included a family that loved him and ultimately a relationship with Jesus Christ. Joe lived his life to encourage others. He lit up a room when he came in with his suspenders on and would talk to anyone and everyone. He never met a stranger.
Joe had a life well-lived and would want this notice not to be about him, but to be about what Jesus Christ did for his life. His ultimate encouragement was to tell others to seek Jesus. In his latter years he sought knowledge about the Bible in a way that was inspiring. He was also known in later years as "The Candy Man" by handing out candy to everyone he met. It was his way of initiating conversation and getting to talk to you.
He made you feel loved and important with his words and his jokes. He understood that life was about loving others.
He loved his wife, Sylvia (also known as Sugar Britches), with intensity and talked about his love of her every chance he got. Joe tried to represent Ephesians 5:25 as best he could. He loved his sons, gave so much encouragement, and worked hard to fulfill what Proverbs 22:6 tells a father to do. He bragged on them to everybody he met. He was proud of his family and more proud of his Savior, Jesus Christ.
Joe is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Sylvia; his children, Brian (Stacey), and Adam; his grandchildren, Zachary (Sarah), Aubrey (Miguel), Ava, and Anna and great-grandchildren, Sebastian and Santiago.
A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, 12:00 PM at Concord Baptist Church with Rev. Richard Wilkins officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Joseph's name to Concord Baptist Church, 4494 Floyd Rd SW, Mableton, GA 30126
