John Worsham's Obituary
John A. (Ken) Worsham passed away peacefully on April 15, 2025, at the age of 89. A loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, he was born on November 2, 1935, in Cedartown, GA, to Hattie Elizabeth Camp and Albert Archie Worsham.
John (Ken) graduated from Cedartown High School in 1954, where he excelled academically, graduating with honors. He met the love of his life, Lula Lanelle Campbell, of Rockmart, GA, on a double date, and they married on April 1, 1956. They soon moved to Marietta, GA for John to join Lockheed Martin as a draftsman. He later embarked on a career in the heating and air conditioning industry building his own HVAC and sheet metal fabrication business, Worsham Mechanical, Inc. John is remembered for his love of family and friends. Known as Poppy to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, they were his pride and joy. Wonderful memories were made at family holidays and on summer vacations to the beach while enjoying swimming, fishing, and golfing, always sharing his wit and humor. John was an accomplished craftsman with time spent in his woodworking shop making special furniture pieces for his family. He also found pleasure in gardening, taking a turn on the dance floor, and volunteering, all time that brought him happiness. He was a lifelong Georgia Tech fan who began listening to football games on his dad’s car radio as a child.
John is preceded in death by his parents, and sisters, Lucille Lankford, Louise Ford, Beatrice Edwards, Omadelle Grant, Lola Brown, and Marjorie Ballinger. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Lanelle, his daughter, Kim Menefee (Chris), his son, John A. (Jay) Worsham, Jr., (Kim), eight grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. A proud veteran, John served in the U.S. Air Force Reserve (1954-1962) attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant at Dobbins Air Force Base, Marietta, GA. He was a member of Lithia Springs First Baptist Church, and former President of the WellStar Cobb Hospital Auxiliary, where he volunteered along with his wife for more than 10 years.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, April 19, at 2 p.m. at Polk Memory Gardens, 2245 Rockmart Hwy, Cedartown, GA, 30125. Funeral arrangements by Davis-Struempf Funeral Home & Crematory, 1975 E. West Connector, Austell, GA, 30106.
