John Wayne Martin's Obituary
John Wayne Martin, 80, much loved husband, father, grandfather, father-in-law, brother, uncle, and friend … has been called home!
After a lengthy struggle with Alzheimer’s, with his devoted wife, Mary, of 56 years by his side, Daddy took his last sweet breath here on earth and was immediately welcomed into the loving, healing arms of his personal Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on March 4, 2018. Although mourning is for those left behind, our family rejoices in his new victorious heavenly body in Christ! "This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it" Psalm 118:24.
Wayne was born August 24, 1937, in Dallas, Georgia to Birdie and Homer Martin; one of 7 children. He graduated from Dallas High School and then proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. After marrying his sweetheart in December of 1963, Mary Geneva Petty (of Jasper), the two settled in the Austell area where they raised a family of three: daughters Kathleen Denise and Lisa Michelle (both of Acworth) and son Christopher "Chris" Wayne (of Lithia Springs). Wayne had a deep love for the outdoors: camping, hunting, fishing, and hiking. He enjoyed traveling and endless rounds of golf with his buddies at St. Andrews Golf Club. Most of all, Wayne was an avid sportsman enjoying baseball, softball, and football … Go Dawgs!!! Tirelessly cheering on his five grandchildren, Madison and Meredith Holland, Nathanael and Samuel Martin, and Elijah Bleu Johnston, in a game of baseball or softball or a golf match at the local park on any given weekend was undoubtedly his greatest joy. He loved his family dearly and was a great provider to all. He loved and was also loved by his three in-laws: Julius V. (Jay) Holland, Jeffrey M. Johnston, and Elizabeth A. Martin, who in turn provided endless support and laughter. Wayne and Mary attended Mars Hill Community Church of Powder Springs where they enjoyed lifting His name in song led by their son, the church’s worship pastor, Chris Martin.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the loving staff of The Pearl at Dallas Memory Care and Heartland Hospice Services for their endless and compassionate care for not just Wayne but his immediate family as well. Hugs, prayers, and counsel were provided in abundance and always just at the right time. Thank you!
