The video tribute and obituary was beautiful. What an example of a life well-lived with faith and with purpose. We wish we could have gotten to know him, but someday in heaven, we will. We are praying for you, especially today, but will continue in the days ahead. May God hold you close and comfort you like no one else can.
It was such an honor and pleasure to have met Mr. Johnston and his family. He touched a lot of lives at Sterling Estates. Always available to help. Participating in lots of activities. Winning the Sterling Masters! Man was he proud. He will be missed! I will be keeping you all in my prayers ♥️
I never met a man that was more of a servant to his wife than my Uncle John. He was kind and caring and would go out of his way to do anything for anyone. He was very very proud of his kids and grandkids and spoke of them continually. I will miss talking to him and my life was better because he was in my family.
So sorry to hear of Johns passing and my deepest condolences to his family.
I’ll never forget the Christmas of 1983 while I was on leave from boot camp from Fort McClellan Alabama, he and Phyllis were in WV visiting. He offered to let me cash in my return plane ticket and they would take me back to Alabama on their way back to Georgia. And we had a very nice trip.
I remember my mother and I managing to get ourselves stranded at his and Phyllis’ home during the blizzard of 1993. And what a wonderful host he was to his unexpected guests.

Three things always stood out to us about John, one made in heaven and two on earth. The first is the amazing attention John always gave to Phyllis in every way we could observe. It was a wonderful example of what it means to become one in Christ, always caring for one another.
The second always brought a smile to our faces. John so loved his desserts. I never noticed how much he ate at a church potluck before he got dessert, but he made lots of people happy by sampling everyone's desserts.
The third was John's love of sports. No one else in our lives had different games on in different rooms of the house at the same time. How he managed to watch multiple games all day on the weekends and most evenings in between is beyond most of us, but he did it.
We will greatly miss John.

My fondest memory of John was observing his tremendous heart of caretaking for Phyllis when she was severely ill in Piedmont Hosp. ICU...in his organized manner, he prioritized with nurses what Phyllis would need during each shift. We are sorry for your loss, and out thoughts and prayers are with the family.
We are thankful for friendship with John over the years at First Alliance Church and admire his kindness, thoughtfulness and efficiency.
He was very proud of his family and kept us up to date on all their events and achievements.
We enjoyed sharing sports events with him, either watching together or discussing over cappucino at the 57th Restaurant.
