John Thomas Griffin Sr.'s Obituary
John Thomas Griffin, Sr. was a great husband, father, grandfather, and proud Marine. He was born in Macon, Georgia on September 13th. He was an exceptional man who lived life to the fullest. He was honored to be a Marine who served our country in Korea from 1950-1952. He shot 45 rockets and was front line artillery. He attended Southern Poly Tech and was a die-hard Georgia Tech fan. He also worked for disaster relief and engineered the steam train at Six Flags. He also owned his own hobby shop called Little Johns Hobby Junction.
John was a member of the EAA- Experimental Aircraft Association and loved flying Cessna airplanes. He was passionate about the Lord and demonstrated that by singing bass in the church choir and quartet. He was also active in the men’s group.
He found the love of his life Barbara in 1949 and married her in November of 1953. They had 70 beautiful years together.
John, or “Pawpaw” as he was called by many, gained his heavenly wings peacefully at the age of 91 on May 12, 2023.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Alpha Griffin and children, Nannette Louise and John Thomas Griffin, Jr.
John is survived by his wife, Barbara Griffin; daughter, Sandra Chilton; 6 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday 2:00 PM at Davis-Struempf Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. David Pearce officiating. Interment will follow at Westview Cemetery. The family will receive friends for visitation prior to the service from 12:00-1:00 PM at the funeral home.
