John P. "Jabo" Cowart Jr. 's Obituary
John P. (Jabo) Cowart, Jr., age 83 of Austell passed away July 4, 2015.
He was born to Sally Maud Cowart & John P. Cowart, Sr. in the Whittier Mill Village and grew up on Bolton Rd. in Chattahoochee, Ga.
He was the first in his family to graduate from University. He received a degree in Industrial Engineering from Ga. Tech.
He built the largest cigarette factory in the world for Reynolds Tobacco. He spent the bulk of his career developing, building & managing property. He built over 1,000. homes for families, including his own children & relatives.
He loved the art of construction. He was passionate about good live music. Most of all, He loved playing golf. He taught that love of the game to his son, David. Who, in turn , taught the game to his son John. His taught the love of building things to his eldest son John III (Deceased). He taught his daughter Sally the love of music.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Shirley. Also, he leaves behind children: David L. Cowart (Theresa), Sally Cowart Hughes (Mark), & Robert Robeson. His grandchildren are John Powell Cowart IV, Johnathan KYLE Hughes, Sarah Elizabeth Hughes. Siblings, James Cowart & Susan Cowart Morris.
We will miss his broad sense of humor, his determined self-will, & his joyful exuberance for his family.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday 10:30 AM at First Baptist Church of Chattahoochee with Rev. Kevin Cuthbertson officiating. Interment will follow at Crestlawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 4:00-8:00 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Georgia Tech Alumni, Habitat for Humanity, Alzheimer’s Association, Heart Association, Cancer Society or charity of your choice.
