Joe Russell Jones' Obituary
Joe Russell Jones, born in 1940, passed away peacefully on June 23, 2026.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, James E. Jones Sr. and Verdye Hill Jones; his beloved wife of 38 years, Liz Jones; his brother, Jimmy Jones; and his sisters, Betty Ann Wiley and Jeannie Woody.
He is survived by his daughter, Karen "Beth" Jones Palmer (Alan); his grandchildren, Tabitha Nickelson (Chris), Russell Palmer (Taylor), and Elana Palmer; and his great-grandchildren, Christopher Nickelson, Destiny Nickelson, Jamie Nickelson, and Sara Nickelson. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
A proud retired Teamster truck driver, Joe never met a stranger. He was known for his warm personality, his love of the beach, his enjoyment of classic westerns, and the joy he found in spending time with his family and friends. His kindness, humor, and generous spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Joe's legacy lives on in the love he shared, the stories he told, and the family who will forever hold him close in their hearts.
A memorial service will be held at Sweetwater Baptist Church, 2308 Sweetwater Church Rd., Douglasville, GA, on Thursday, July 2, 2026, at 11:00 AM. Visitation will be held at the church from 10:00-11:00 AM.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Sweetwater Baptist Church Meal Ministry in Joe's honor.
