JoAnne Wheeler's Obituary
JoAnne Wheeler, age 96 of Austell passed away January 21, 2025.
JoAnne was born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia to Thomas and Minnie Withers.
She excelled in athletics in high school and went on to work for the YMCA.
JoAnne met the love of her life, Lamar shortly after high school and they were married in 1947. Together, they bought JoAnne’s family business- Wheeler Metal Crafts and operated the company jointly their entire lives.
They moved to Cobb County in 1963 where they raised their two daughters.
JoAnne was an excellent and caring mother who provided a loving home for her children.
In addition to her parents, JoAnne was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, M. Lamar Wheeler; brother, Thomas Withers, Jr.; sister, Evelyn Pruitt; grandson, Ross Tinsley; granddaughter, Patricia Strickland.
She is survived by her daughters, Cathy Wheeler of Austell and Carol Thomas of Dallas; great-granddaughter, Josie Wheeler.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday 3:30 PM at Davis-Struempf Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Joe Brice and Rev. David Jones officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Harmony Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends for visitation prior to the service Saturday from 2:30PM-3:30PM.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Red Cross Disaster Relief at www.redcross.org/donate or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital at www.stjude.org/donate in honor of JoAnne.
