JoAnne Stewart's Obituary
JoAnne Smith Stewart, age 81, of Marietta, passed away Tuesday, October 23. She graduated from Bowdon High School in Bowdon, Georgia, in 1948 where she played basketball and was a co-captain of the team. JoAnne served for 17 years as Church Secretary at Welcome All Baptist Church, Smyrna, Ga., before retiring in 1987. Her joy was to spend time with her family and enjoyed an annual family vacation to the beach and to the mountains. For the past three years she, her husband, and daughter enjoyed trips out west and north into Canada. Her hobbies included her flowers and golfing. She was a member of West Ridge Church, Dallas, Georgia. She was preceded in death by her son, John W. (Johnny) Stewart, Jr., her parents Olin and Lillian Smith, and her sister, Frances Prince.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years, John W. (J. W.) Stewart Sr., daughter Gail Davis, of Austell, grandsons, Jeff L., Jr. and Carrie Davis of Douglasville, Josh and Katie Davis of Douglasville, Jarrett and Brittany Davis of Douglasville, and great-granddaughters, Evyn and Arlee Davis of Douglasville, brothers, Burien and Dean Smith of Glenwood, GA, Buddy and Donna Smith of Bowdon GA., brother-in-law Tom and Frankie Stewart of Bowdon, GA; sister-in-law, Joann and Gerald Rogers of Bowdon, GA, and many nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, October 25, 2012 from 4:00 PM to 8:00PM.
A funeral service will be held at Davis-Struempf Chapel at 11:00 AM on Friday, October 26, 2012 with Rev. Jeff Bell officiating. Music will be by Jerry Rogers, nephew. Pall bearers will be nephews Joey Prince, Trennis Smith, Russell Smith, Randall Smith, Steve Stewart, and Mike Stewart. Honorary pall bearers will be Tommy Stewart and Mark Stewart.
Internment will follow a brief grave-side service Friday 1:30 pm at the Indian Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, 1282 North Hwy. 100, Bowdon, GA.
