Joan Marie Fulghum's Obituary
Joan Marie Freshour Fulghum, 83, passed away on March 26, 2017 in her home in Kennesaw, Georgia, surrounded by family and friends.
The funeral service will be held at eleven o’clock in the morning on Saturday, April 1st at Saint Catherine of Siena Catholic Church in Kennesaw, Georgia. Following the service, a reception will be hosted at the home of Roy and Rhonda Ellison.
Joan was born in Hagerstown, Maryland on December 26, 1933. She grew up in Jennings Gap, Virginia. Joan studied music at Washington Missionary College where she was classically trained in voice and piano. She was vivacious and an avid lover of music and dancing. Her life work included care taking of her children and grandchildren, through which she passed down her love of music, incredible faith, and love of Jesus Christ.
Joan is preceded in death by her mother, Julia Mary Shull Shank, and her father, Raymond Leo Freshour.
Joan is survived by her children, Angela Joan Bruce (Michael), Rhonda Minter Ellison (Roy, III), Julie Marie Minter, Gregg Howard Minter (Donna); her sister, Janet Yvonne Graham (Lewis); her brothers, Richard Robert Freshour (Patricia) and Raymond Nelson Freshour; her grandchildren, Angela Summer Bruce, Matthew William Bruce (Lesley), Elizabeth Minter Ellison, Laura Kathryn Ellison, Andrew Christian Ellison, Grant Howard Minter; great grandchildren, Kira Bronwyn Mayer, Moira Summer Turner, Evelyn Lucille Bruce, Benjamin William Bruce, Julia Rowan Bruce; her nephew, Seneca Charles Graham (Lisa); her nieces, Christina Lynne Balzanna (Anthony) and Kimberly Anne Patterson (John); her great nephew, Seneca Merle Graham and great niece, Natalye Brooke Graham. And last but not least, her beloved poodle and companion, Dominic.
As a testament to Joan’s loving inclusiveness, she became “Grandmother” to Jennifer Lynne Komdat, Robert Matthew Saul, Rebecca Ann Manley and many others.
Memorial contributions and donations may be made in lieu of flowers to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, American Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, and Saint Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, organizations in which Joan invested and held dearly.
