Jessie Louise Brown's Obituary
Jessie Louise Wood (née Brown), 83, of Cartersville, GA, passed away unexpectedly on December 20, 2024.
Jessie was born on March 21, 1941, in Atlanta, GA. She came from humble beginnings, growing up in a family where her parents, Roy Clifton Wood Sr. and Jessie Lee Stallings, owned and operated their own restaurant. From an early age, Jessie was taught the values of hard work, honesty, and a deep love for family and the Lord—principles she carried throughout her life.
Jessie’s passing came after a courageous journey through health challenges in 2024. Diagnosed with colon cancer earlier in the year, she faced the disease with remarkable resilience and grace, having been in remission for over 15 years. Her passing, however, was unrelated to cancer and followed complications from a colon tear that led to kidney failure. True to her character, Jessie faced her final days on her terms, with courage, dignity, and an unshakable faith, knowing she was going home to heaven and to be reunited with her beloved husband and many cherished family members.
Jessie was a devout Christian, finding joy in serving the Lord and those around her. She was a loyal homemaker and devoted wife, always ready to lend an ear or a helping hand to anyone in need. Her home was a place of warmth, love, and care, and her family was her greatest treasure. Jessie had a heart as big as her infectious laugh, and she took immense pride in the lives and accomplishments of her loved ones.
Her work ethic was unmatched, and she faced every task with determination and grace, never backing down or giving less than her all. Jessie was an incredible cook who delighted in preparing meals that brought people together and created lasting memories around the table. Known for her honesty, selflessness, and kindness, Jessie truly embodied compassion, strength, and grace.
Jessie is survived by her beloved daughter, Theresa Kelani, 62; her cherished granddaughter, Alia Kelani, 35; and her adored great-grandson, JJ Reed, 5. She also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, and in-laws, all of whom she held close to her heart. Jessie was preceded in death by her loving parents, Roy Clifton Wood Sr. and Jessie Lee Stallings; her dear brothers, Roy Wood, Raymond Wood, and Fred Wood; her devoted husband, Seldon Brown; her beloved granddaughter, Jessica Russell; and her precious great-grandson, Mateo Kelani-Jordan.
A funeral service will be held Thursday, January 2, 2025 1:00 PM at Davis-Struempf Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ricky Perkins officiating. Interment will follow at Westview Cemetery. The family will receive friends for visitation prior to the service Thursday from 11:00AM-1:00PM.
The family deeply appreciates any donations to assist with burial costs, as the life insurance payout is not immediate. Contributions may be sent to her daughter via CashApp at $sweett3562.
Though her passing was sudden, Jessie’s unwavering faith, strength, and the memories she created will live on in the hearts of all who loved her. She will be remembered for her ability to bring warmth to every room, her courageous spirit, and her unshakable belief in Jesus’ promise.
“Rest peacefully, dear Jessie, in the loving arms of the Lord. ‘Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you.’ (John 14:27). Though our hearts ache with your loss, we find peace in knowing you are now at rest, free from pain, and embraced by Jesus’ eternal love. Your life was a beautiful testament to faith, kindness, and love for your family. You will forever be in our hearts, and your legacy of warmth and strength will continue to guide us. Rest now, knowing your spirit lives on in all of us who were blessed to know you.”
