Jean Wise Reider's Obituary
Jean Wise Reider, age 88 died on January 11, 2015. She was a long time resident of the Presbyterian Village in Austell, GA. Formerly of Maysfield, Texas, She had lived in Georgia for the last 40 years. She was pre-deceased by her husband of 67 years, CDR. R K Reider USN (Ret.). She is survived by her two children, Carol Reider Paulsen of Suffolk, VA and Ric Reider of Atlanta, GA. Ric’s wife, Joy Gayle Baynes of Atlanta, GA, two grandchildren: Dana Louise Ormbrek of Seattle, WA and Kenneth Paulsen of Waldorf, MD and 5 Great Grandchildren.
Mrs. Reider attended schools in Maysfield, TX and graduated from Yoe High School in Cameron, TX in 1943. She attended the University of Texas until her Junior year when she married CDR. Richard K Reider. She graduated with honors from The University of Missouri in 1951 with memberships in PI Lambda Theta and The RHO Chapter of PHI Epsilon Omicron.
After marrying Ken Reider in 1945, his Naval career took her to 48 states and 33 houses in 67 years. During this time, she taught 5th grade in Jacksonville, FL for three years- the longest they ever lived anywhere.
After her husband retired from the Navy, they moved to Atlanta, GA where she was employed by Westminster Schools as an Associate Librarian and the Academic Dean of the ninth grade girls.
Mrs. Reider was a world traveler- having visited 72 countries and six continents with her husband after retirement from Westminster Schools. She was an avid maker of scrapbooks. Scrapbooks dating back to an early age, her childhood, her school years, one for each of her trips, her children, and husband are treasured mementoes.
A Memorial Service will be held at the Presbyterian Village on Thursday, January 15, 2015. Interment will be at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, GA. on Friday January 16, 2015. Memorials may be sent to the Caring Fund at Presbyterian Village.
