Jean Price's Obituary
Jean Smith Price of Austell, Georgia passed away on December 8 at the age of 90. Jean is survived by her six children: Cathy Price Coleman (Joel Coleman) of Winston, Celia Price of Atlanta, Geri Price (Martha Moss Price) of Douglasville, Mark Price (Vicki Green Price) of Austell, Kevin Price (Sheila Rampley Price) of Powder Springs, and Charles Price of Austell, as well as 15 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Jean is also survived by her much-loved sister, Dorothy Smith Sewell, and countless loving nieces, nephews, and cousins. Jean was preceded in death by her loving husband, Kirkland Thomas Price, and very recently by her dear brother, Frank C. (Bucky) Smith, Jr.
Jean was born on December 6, 1927 in Austell to Frank C. Smith, Sr. and Matilda Leonard Smith. She graduated from Austell High School and attended the University of Georgia, where she met her future husband, Kirk Price. Jean devoted her life to raising their six children and then showering love on her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was selfless, generous and giving, and always had time for those who needed her. Over her life she "adopted" many others who lovingly called her Mother. Jean was a lifelong member of Austell First United Methodist Church, which she loved greatly, where she was in the choir for many years and taught a children’s Sunday School class.
After her youngest child was in school, Jean went to work for the Austell Public Library and later joined Austell Boxboard/Caraustar, from which she retired in 1995.
Visitation will be Friday, December 15 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Davis-Struempf Funeral Home in Austell, and a memorial service will be held Saturday, December 16 at 2:00 pm at the Austell First United Methodist Church. There will be no interment service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Austell First United Methodist Church.
