J.D. "Mickey" James' Obituary
J.D. “ Mickey” James
After an extended illness Mickey entered the presences of the Lord Jesus, Friday, January 25, 2013. The Lord has so richly blessed us in these recent years with the people that serve at Bethel Gardens, Powder Springs, GA. They have become our dear friends. Blessings continue on you as you serve.
Mickey was born in Glynn County, Georgia. At a young age he and his family moved to the Atlanta area. He graduated from South Cobb High School. He worked and enjoyed 44 years service with Lockheed Martin Aeronautical Company and retired in 1999.
Mickey’s retirement allowed him to do the things he loved most- mission projects. This led him to work with Builders for Christ through the Noonday Baptist Association, Disaster Relief with the Southern Baptist during several emergencies like Storm Katrina.
He was able to travel to Mexico, Alaska, South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Eastern Europe with mission involvements. But for Mickey it was being with the men and women who loved to serve the Lord. His favorite place of service was always the kitchen. He loved to cook and see the people enjoy good meals as they were fed quite adequately by his hand for their day’s work.
As a member and deacon at First Baptist Church Powder Springs, GA he enjoyed the men’s events, mission trips, and projects that were done by our local church and in our area. He loved to make breakfast for the group to prepare them for a hard day’s work but had lots of fun doing this. Wild Game Banquets were his favorite because he got to try his hand at exotic fair for the palettes of the men.
For Mickey his happiest times were hiking in the mountains or sightseeing in new places. Now he has a whole new realm to discover and enjoy.
Mickey will be missed by his wife, Gloria Sanders James, daughters, Connie Prince, Lisa Goss and her husband, Frank, Faith James and nine grandchildren, five great- grandchildren, brother, Barney and Pay James, and sister, Delores and Karel Feyearts and by numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held Monday, 11:00 AM, First Baptist Church of Powder Springs. Rev. Mike Woods, Rev. Alan Davis and Dr. D. Ray Davis officiating. Interment will follow at Cheatham Hill Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday 2-5 pm at Davis-Struempf Funeral Home & Crematory, Austell. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Precept Ministries International, PO Box 182218, Chattanooga, TN 37422 or International Mission Board, PO Box 6767, Richmond, VA 23230
