Janie A. Dougherty's Obituary
Janie Aslean (Caro) Dougherty passed away on Saturday, June 7th, 2014, following complications of liver failure. She was a 22-year liver transplant survivor.
Born to Calvin Clifford Caro and Mary Eleanor (Owen) Caro in Pensacola, Florida, in 1947, Janie grew up in the Myrtle Grove area. Following graduation from Escambia High School in 1965, she began her nursing career at Sacred Heart Hospital while pursuing her nursing degree through a program with Pensacola Junior College. On June 4th, 1967, she married her high school sweetheart and enjoyed 48 years of loving marriage with Danny B. Dougherty. Their son, Danny, Jr, arrived in 1968.
In 1972 the Daugherty family relocated to Cobb County, Georgia, and Janie continued her career as a cardiac care nurse at Crawford Long Hospital. In 1979, she and her husband purchased and ran a hobby shop in Marietta, and Mrs. Dougherty left nursing to pursue their entrepreneurial dreams. In order to better contribute to the business, she studied accounting at Kennesaw College and graduated with her Bachelors Degree in 1989 Janie became a licensed CPA and began a career in finance.
Janie received her real estate licensed in 1988 and shortly there after her Broker's license. As a REALTOR, she was a member of the National Association of REALTORS and her state & local REALTOR Associations. She worked as a Salesperson at the Harry Norman REALTORS West Cobb office.
Janie Dougherty enjoyed many hobbies and recreational activities. In the 1990’s she accompanied her husband and son to many vintage auto races where she was pit boss and cheering crew for the team. After her liver transplant in 1990, she was an active volunteer and fundraiser for the American Liver Foundation. Janie loved visiting antique shops. She was an accomplished pianist and enjoyed sewing and crafts, was a cross-stitch enthusiast and talented quilter. Janie and Dan Dougherty were members of McEachern Memorial United Methodist Church.
Janie is survived by her husband, Danny B. Dougherty, of Powder Springs, and her son, Danny B. Dougherty, Jr and his wife Patricia, of Atlanta. Her brother, Buddy Caro, still resides in the Pensacola area. Visitation will take place Thursday from 4-8pm at Davis-Struempf Funeral Home, and the funeral will be held on Friday at 2pm. Mrs. Dougherty will later be laid to rest next to her parents at Myrtle Grove United Methodist Church Pensacola. The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the American Liver Foundation, 39 Broadway, Suite 2700, New York, NY 10006.
