James L. Stinson's Obituary
James Linton Stinson, 87, of Austell, died February 19, 2014, at his home. Mr. Stinson was born May 7, 1926, in Tunnel Hill, Georgia. He joined the Navy in 1944, serving as a Seaman 2nd Class stationed at NAS Corpus Christi, Texas. He performed duties as a flight line mechanic repairing P51 Mustang aircraft as well as a flight line mechanic on a PBY aircraft patrolling the Gulf of Mexico. After his discharge from the Navy in 1947, he began working for CSX Railroad in Atlanta, Georgia until his retirement in 1988. He was also active as a Mason at the Leland Lodge in Mableton, Georgia.
He is survived by his daughter, Leslie Stinson Watkins and spouse, James Watkins of Lithia Springs; his son, James Andrew “Andy” Stinson and spouse, Beth of LaGrange; three grandchildren, Daniel Collier Watkins and spouse, Ashley Wyatt Watkins of Warner Robbins, Nick Stinson of Atlanta and Leslie Stinson of LaGrange; two great-grandchildren, Camdilyn Mabry and Mattingly Ann Watkins, his sister, Janice Stinson Conklin of Charleston, South Carolina, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Ann Wimmers Stinson, mother, Mary Ruth Griffin Stinson, father, James William Stinson and three brothers, Clyde, Charles, and Jack Stinson.
The family will receive friends on Friday, February 21 from 1:00 pm with a memorial service to follow at 2:00 pm at Davis-Struempf Funeral Home, Austell, Georgia. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Light of Hope Presbyterian Church, 1507 Hurt Road, Marietta, GA 30008.
