James Lee Smith Jr.'s Obituary
James Lee Smith, Jr., age 81, of Mableton passed away May 3, 2024.
James was born to James Smith, Sr. and Margaret Corrine Stewart Smith in High Point, NC. The family moved to the Marietta area in his youth. After graduating from West Fulton High School, James began taking classes at Southern Polytechnic. In 1967, just before he was drafted into the Vietnam War, James married the love of his life, Sharon Sluyter Smith. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1968 to his honorable discharge in 1971. After his service, James spent many years working for RCA in their Sales department. In his free time, James could be found watching the Braves or perfecting his coin collection.
James was a long-time member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Marietta.
James was preceded in death by his wife, Sharon Sluyter Smith; grandson, Jared Stark; and sister, Mary Jane Sexton Brewer.
He is survived by his children, Tamara Stark (Craig) of Dallas, David Smith of Mableton, Paige Heaton (Roland) of Marietta, and Brandon Brantley of Mableton; grandchildren, Abagail Stark, Aaron Stark (Kayleigh), Christopher Smith, Ethan Stark, and Amelia Henderson; and many beloved extended family and friends.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 7th, from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at Davis-Struempf Funeral Home.
A funeral service honoring James’ life will be held Wednesday, May 8th, 11:00 AM at Davis-Struempf Chapel. Interment will follow the service at Mt. Harmony Memorial Gardens.
