James Rayford Sanders' Obituary
James Rayford Sanders, age 87, beloved father, grandfather, and friend, went to meet his Lord and Savior on January 30, 2025.
Jimmy was born to Robert and Ruth Sanders in Atlanta, and he grew up in and around the metro-Atlanta area. He was long-time member of Mt. Harmony Baptist Church, having joined the congregation in the early 1960s.
Jimmy’s heart belonged to the outdoors. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Even toward the end of his life, he yearned to be outside and work in the yard. In earlier years, Jimmy served as an umpire for a softball league in Powder Springs. For 20 years, his life consisted of working in his own business, going home for lunch, then spending the remaining hours out in the sunshine on the softball field.
Jimmy was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 65 years, Wynelle Vick Sanders; and siblings, Buck, Gary, and Betty.
He is survived by his children, James Phillip Sanders (Julie) of Austell and Rayford Stuart Sanders (Ashley) of Hiram; sisters, Pat Page (Lamar) of Douglasville and Martha Mullins of Blue Ridge; grandchildren, Sara Trojanowski (Doug), Jonathan Sanders (Tiffany), Joshua Sanders (Kendell), Michael Sanders, David Sanders, Adam Sanders (Jordan), Elizabeth Sanders (Devin Burks), and Victoria Favero (Austin); great-grandchildren, Leon, Sailor, Presley, Maddox Blaire, Seth, Gage, Jackson, and Grayson; and many beloved extended family and friends.
A funeral service honoring Jimmy’s life will be held Monday, February 3, 1:00 PM at Mt. Harmony Baptist Church with Dr. Randal Whitten officiating. Interment will follow the service at Mt. Harmony Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 12:00 to 1:00 PM before the service.
