James Edwin McKenney's Obituary
James “Edwin” McKenney, age 98, of Powder Springs passed away surrounded by his family on May 25, 2022. Edwin was born in Austell to George Baxter McKenney and Ethel Matthews McKenney. He was raised in the Cobb County area, and graduated from Austell High School. Edwin was drafted into the service in 1943 during World War II. A member of the Army Air Corp, Edwin spent his service years as a B- 24 airplane mechanic in England and North Africa, and left service in 1945 at the rank of Sergeant. Later, Edwin went on to work as a mail carrier at the Austell Post Office, and retired after 25 years of service
Edwin was a lover of the outdoors. He was happiest on his farm where he cared for cows and his fields. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing in his spare time. His grandbabies all got to take turns riding on his tractor. He was a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend who will be dearly missed.
Edwin was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 69 years, Lucile Cleveland McKenney; daughters, Lori Rene McKenney and Jan Edwina Molina; and his siblings, John Gordon McKenney, GB McKenney, and Mary Jo Garvin. He is survived by his daughters, Carol Sanders (husband, Doug) of Marietta, SC, and Melissa Jones (husband, Danny) of Powder Springs; 7 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; and many beloved extended family members and friends.
Funeral services will be held Monday, May 30th, 12:00PM at Davis-Struempf Chapel with Pastor Major Dalton officiating. Interment will follow the service at Powder Springs City Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 12:00 PM before the service.
