James Edward Glasser's Obituary
James Edward Glasser, 68, of Smyrna, GA passed away March 9, 2017. Jim, son of Dr. Julian Glasser and Mildred Demmel, was born in Oak Park, IL on February 14, 1949. He spent most of his childhood in Chattanooga, TN where he graduated from the McCallie School in 1967 and the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga in 1972. He was a standout student athlete and All-American wrestler at both schools.
Jim married Marilyn Penney of Soddy Daisy, TN in 1973. Soon thereafter, they moved to Atlanta, GA where he was a teacher and coach at The Lovett School for 36 years. “Coach Glasser” coached multiple sports during his tenure but is best known for his record breaking success as a National Hall of Fame Wrestling Legend. With over 750 dual meet victories, he’s one of the winningest wrestling coaches of all time at any level in the country.
Jim was a beloved father, mentor and friend who loved dancing to the oldies, riding his motorcycle, and spending time with his kids and grandchildren at the beach. Jim is survived by his three children Julie Stebbins of Powder Springs, GA, Brennen Glasser of Smyrna, GA, and Tyson Glasser of Greenville, SC; son-in-law Jason Stebbins and daughter-in-law Suzanne Sanders Glasser; brother William Glasser of Las Vegas, NV; nieces Talara and Shannon Glasser; grandchildren Jessa and Jacob Stebbins.
Celebration of Life service will be held on March 25, 2017 in the Glover Gymnasium on the campus of The Lovett School in Atlanta, GA at 4:00 PM followed by a reception in the Glasser Wrestling Room.
